About Somatic
Psychotherapy
In somatic, experiential therapy you can observe the various "channels" of your experience, including your thoughts, emotions, physicality, imagery, and spirit, as well as the dance that links these inseparable aspects. Unlike many "talk therapies," you will be encouraged to contact your present moment experience, de-emphasizing the content or "story," while helping you glean the meaning and import of what you discover from the inside-out. Mindfulness, a non-judging awareness of whatever is happening, is the process by which this exploration comes to life.
Thoughts, analysis and cognitive patterns, will not be discounted nor criticized, but explored with curiosity, along with more somatic aspects of the self, such as body sensations, movements and gestures, postures and facial expressions, as well as the less "dense" phenomena of imagery and energy. If you choose, touch may be included to help you learn about and transform your habits or stuck places. The kind of touch used is not bodywork nor massage, rather a hand on your shoulder or heart, our hands pushing palm-to-palm, or sitting back to back.
